In a major policy decision, Ministry of Railways has comprehensively revised categories of various Railway Stations with a view to make it more practical and rational. This comes after the Minister of Railways & Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal directed to re-categorize railway stations taking into account earnings, passenger footfall, strategic importance with a view to plan various passenger services and passenger amenities at stations in a more effective and focused manner. It will also help the passenger to have a better experience in relation to travel amenities at stations. The earlier criteria for station categorisation was based on the annual passenger earnings only. Stations were categorised into 7 categories which A-1, A, B, C, D, E and F. Vistara Airlines has approached the Aviation Ministry to start international operations from May next year, reports the Economic Times. Vistara is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, where Tata owns 51 percent and Singapore Airlines has a 49 percent stake. They expect to meet the 20-plane eligibility norm by next year. "As part of the preparation, we have also advanced our aircraft deliveries and expect to receive our 20th aircraft by March 2018. To clear extra rush of passengers during the Durga puja festival, the Central Railway will run four trips of special trains between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai and Howrah. A statement of the Railways said that the train no. 01125 will make two trips in which it will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 11.30 am on September 20 and arrive Howrah at 9.30 pm next day. During the return journey, train no. 01126 will leave Howrah at 11.30 am on September 22 and will arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 12.20 am on Sunday. The train will halt at many stations. Jet Airways will add 56 new weekly flights this month before the Indian festive season kicks off next month, the airline said on Thursday. “Continuing its focus to expand connectivity between emerging cities in India, Jet Airways, India’s premier international airline, is set to introduce as many as 56 new weekly flights in this month and the next, ahead of the festive season,” Jet Airways said. The new flights will include ‘industry firsts’ as well as a mix of non-stop and one-stop services between cities like Pune, Coimbatore, Silchar and Jorhat.
